Spiritual Growth

Strong emotions can create destructive and habitual patterns in your mind and body. Phone counseling can help you understand these negative patterns, increase awareness and learn new ways to free yourself from destructive habits. Phone counseling in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness can help you learn to tolerate bodily sensations and better manage powerful emotions. Mindfulness
According to the father of mindfulness, Jon Kabat-Zin, mindfulness is the art of focusing on the present moment, non-judgmentally, while attending to your breath on purpose. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective in reducing anxiety, depression, panic attacks, sleep disorders, and stress. Furthermore, when you commit to fifteen minutes as you begin your day, your mind, body, and soul will transform.

Introduction to Mindfulness of Breath:
1. In a quiet space, sit in a comfortable position in a chair. Sit upright, with your back straight against the chair as in a dignified position. Gently close your eyes. Relax your arms, and place your hands comfortably in your lap. Relax your legs and place your feet firmly on the floor.
2. Gently bring your attention to your breath. Notice each breath as you inhale and exhale.
3. Be aware of the sensations in your body as you breathe. Observe what parts of your body move as your breathe.
4. If thoughts come into your mind, simply note them, and without judgment, gently bring your attention back to your breath.
5. Continue the process for 3-4 more minutes, as you feel comfortable.
6. When you are ready, keeping your eyes closed, bring your attention back to the room. Experience any sounds or sanctions. When you are ready slowly open your eyes with a newness and freshness to your day.

Yoga Therapy
For those of you that are yoga practitioners I use yoga as a metaphor focusing on your relationship with self. This practice can facilitate and fulfill our longing for simplicity, inner peace, and deeper meaning. Phone counseling and/or therapy can help you learn how to be with yourself at the edges of life. You will learn to look within yourself to find and express your own inner wisdom and voice.

As an experienced psychotherapist and yoga practitioner for many years I will help you deepen your connection to self combining the practice of yoga, breathwork and contemporary body-mind psychology.
